Disneyland Paris in summer can be absolutely magical: long days, late park hours and warm evenings make it easy to spend as much time as possible in the parks. But summer also brings two challenges families should be prepared for – crowds and heat.
Especially in July and August, school holidays across Europe can make the parks extremely busy, while temperatures can climb well above 30°C (86°F). During a heatwave, the weather may even affect rides, parades and shows.
The good news? With the right planning, neither crowds nor high temperatures have to ruin your Disney trip. In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know about visiting Disneyland Paris in summer with kids, including how to stay cool, when to take breaks and what to expect during extreme heat.

Yes, absolutely. Summer has a lot going for it at Disneyland Paris, especially for families who want to make the most of their time in the parks.
The long days are a huge advantage. There’s no need to rush through your itinerary, and warm evenings are perfect for staying in the parks until the nighttime entertainment begins. Summer also means you can enjoy outdoor attractions, parades and the beautifully decorated areas of the parks without worrying too much about cold or rainy weather – although this is Paris, so a rain shower is always possible.
For families tied to school holidays, Disneyland Paris in summer is also simply one of the most practical times to visit. And while July and August require a little more planning, we certainly wouldn’t rule them out. We’ve found that knowing when to arrive, when to slow down and how to adapt your day to the weather makes a much bigger difference than the season itself.
How crowded is Disneyland Paris in summer?

July and August are popular months at Disneyland Paris for an obvious reason: millions of families across Europe are on summer break at the same time. French school holidays overlap with holidays in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and other European countries, while Disneyland Paris also attracts visitors from much further afield.
That doesn’t mean every summer day will be equally crowded. Crowd levels can vary considerably, and waiting times also change throughout the day. Instead of worrying too much about predicted crowd calendars, we prefer to have a rough strategy and then use current waiting times once we’re inside the parks.
Make the most of the morning at Disneyland Paris in summer
If you’re staying at a Disney Hotel and have access to Extra Magic Time, summer is a particularly good time to use it. Popular attractions can be much easier to experience before the parks fill up later in the morning.
Even without Extra Magic Time, arriving before regular opening can make a noticeable difference. Choose two or three attractions that matter most to your family and head to those first rather than trying to work through the park in geographical order.
Use the Disneyland Paris App
The Disneyland Paris app is one of the most useful tools on a busy summer day because you can check what’s happening around both parks without constantly walking from one area to another.
We use the app throughout our visits, and in summer it’s particularly helpful because it can also show you where to find water and places to cool down.
You can use the Disneyland Paris app to:
- Check current attraction wait times
- Find rides and attractions on the interactive park map
- Check height requirements before heading to a ride with your children
- Find restrooms nearby
- Locate designated smoking areas
- Find drinking water fountains to refill your bottles
- Locate misting stations to cool down on hot summer days
Especially when visiting Disneyland Paris with kids in summer, these small features can save a surprising amount of walking and make it much easier to adapt your plans as crowds, waiting times and temperatures change throughout the day.
Stay flexible during the day
With kids, we don’t think it’s worth turning a Disney day into a military operation. Have a few priorities, but be prepared to change plans. If one attraction suddenly has a much shorter wait, take advantage of it; if another has an enormous queue, come back later.
Consider an afternoon break
If you’re staying for several days, an afternoon break can work particularly well in summer. Heading back to your hotel for a rest or a swim gives everyone a chance to recharge before returning to the parks later.
And summer gives you one major advantage here: the long days and typically later park hours mean an afternoon break doesn’t necessarily cost you your evening in the parks. You can return when many younger children are getting tired and enjoy Disneyland Paris as the temperatures start to drop.
How hot does Disneyland Paris get in summer?
The weather at Disneyland Paris in summer can range from pleasantly warm to extremely hot. Temperatures above 30°C (86°F) are possible, and during a heatwave they can climb significantly higher.
How hot it actually feels inside the parks is another matter. Long periods outdoors, sunny waiting areas and walking several miles over the course of a day can make even moderately high temperatures tiring, especially for younger children.
We therefore wouldn’t pack for Disneyland Paris based solely on average summer temperatures. Check the forecast shortly before your trip and adjust your plans accordingly. A day at 24°C (75°F) is a completely different experience from visiting Disneyland Paris at 35°C (95°F).
-> During particularly hot weather, however, there’s another thing many first-time visitors don’t realize: extreme heat can affect what actually happens inside Disneyland Paris.
What happens at Disneyland Paris during a heatwave?

A heatwave at Disneyland Paris doesn’t automatically mean rides and entertainment will stop. However, when temperatures become extreme, Disneyland Paris can make operational changes to protect guests and Cast Members – something visitors experienced during the major heatwave that affected Disneyland Paris in early summer 2026
Outdoor entertainment is particularly susceptible to changes. Parades may be shortened or modified, outdoor shows or character appearances may be adjusted or cancelled, and some attractions can temporarily close because of extreme temperatures.
If there’s a particular parade, show or attraction your children desperately want to experience, don’t rely solely on the schedule you checked before your trip. Keep an eye on the Disneyland Paris app and any information provided in the parks, especially on exceptionally hot days.
The good news is that Disneyland Paris has quite a few ways to escape the heat – including some that are easy to overlook.
How to stay cool at Disneyland Paris in summer
When temperatures rise, a few simple adjustments can make Disneyland Paris in summer much more enjoyable. You don’t need to spend the entire day hiding indoors, but we wouldn’t plan a hot summer day in exactly the same way as a visit in spring or fall.
Bring your own water
One of the most important things to know is that you can bring your own drinks into Disneyland Paris (no alcohol). Especially when visiting with children, we’d always arrive with filled water bottles rather than relying entirely on buying drinks inside the parks.
There are also drinking water fountains throughout Disneyland Paris, so reusable bottles are particularly useful. You can locate water fountains in the Disneyland Paris app and refill your bottles during the day.
On very hot days, encourage children to drink regularly rather than waiting until they tell you they’re thirsty. With all the excitement around them, it’s surprisingly easy for kids to forget.
Use the misting stations at Disneyland Paris
One of the best little features during a hot day at Disneyland Paris are the misting stations around the resort. They spray a fine mist of water and can provide some very welcome relief when temperatures climb.
You don’t have to wander around looking for them either: misting stations can be found in the Disneyland Paris app, making it easy to include a quick cool-down stop while moving between attractions.

Plan indoor attractions for the hottest hours
Instead of simply choosing rides according to the shortest waiting time, we’d also consider where you’ll actually be waiting and how much time you’ll spend indoors.
Save some indoor attractions for the hottest part of the afternoon. They give you a break from direct sun without making it feel as though you’re sacrificing precious park time just to escape the heat.
This works particularly well when visiting Disneyland Paris in summer with kids: you’re still experiencing attractions while everyone gets a chance to cool down.
Look for shade before you need it
Shade can become surprisingly valuable when you’re spending an entire summer day in the parks. If you’re stopping for a snack, waiting for other family members or deciding what to do next, don’t automatically stay in the sun.
The same applies when waiting for parades. Standing in direct sunlight long before a parade begins can be exhausting, particularly for younger children. On very hot days, we’d rather compromise slightly on the perfect viewing position than spend a long time waiting in full sun.
Best shaded places at Disneyland Paris in summer
Finding shade can make a huge difference during a hot summer day at Disneyland Paris. Some areas of the parks are much better for escaping the direct sun than others, and there are a few places we particularly like to keep in mind when temperatures rise.
✓ Liberty Arcade and Discovery Arcade: Probably the easiest escape from the sun in Disneyland Park. Both covered arcades run alongside Main Street, U.S.A., so you can walk between Town Square and Central Plaza without staying out in the direct sunshine.
✓ Adventureland: With its winding paths, vegetation, caves and covered passages around Adventure Isle and the Aladdin area, Adventureland offers plenty of opportunities to get away from exposed open spaces.
✓ Indoor attractions and walkthroughs: Don’t underestimate attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean or the covered walkthrough areas when you need a break. Disneyland Paris itself highlights the Arcades, Adventure Isle and Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin among its places for a more relaxed walk through the park.
✓Restaurants and covered terraces: If everyone needs a longer break, use lunch or snack time strategically. Some restaurants offer outdoor seating beneath parasols, giving you a chance to sit down without remaining in full sun.
One place we’d try to avoid lingering unnecessarily during the hottest part of the day is the large, exposed area around Central Plaza and Sleeping Beauty Castle. It’s beautiful, but when the sun is beating down, we’d rather use the shaded routes through the park and return for photos later in the day.
What to wear at Disneyland Paris in summer
Comfort matters far more than creating the perfect Disney outfit when temperatures are high. Lightweight, breathable clothing, comfortable shoes and sun protection are the basics we’d prioritize for Disneyland Paris in July or August.
A sun hat or cap is particularly useful for children, and sunscreen belongs in your park bag so you can reapply it during the day. Sunglasses can also make long periods outdoors more comfortable.
At the same time, don’t assume that summer means hot every single day… Paris weather can change quickly, so check the forecast shortly before your trip. A lightweight rain jacket can still earn its place in your bag even if you visit Disneyland Paris in August.

Should you take a hotel break during a hot Disney day?
If you’re staying at Disneyland Paris for more than one day, going back to your hotel during the hottest part of the afternoon can be one of the best summer strategies.
This is particularly appealing if your hotel has a swimming pool. Instead of pushing tired children through another few hours of queues in the heat, you can cool down, rest and return to the parks later.
Because summer evenings are long and the parks generally operate later than during quieter parts of the year, an afternoon break doesn’t necessarily mean losing a large part of your Disney experience.
And that leads perfectly into the next useful question:
Which Disneyland Paris hotels have air conditioning and pools?
Where you stay can make a surprisingly big difference when visiting Disneyland Paris in summer. After a full day of walking around the parks in 30°C (86°F) heat, air conditioning is no longer something we’d consider a minor hotel amenity.
The good news is that most Disney Hotels have air-conditioned accommodation, so you can return to a cool room after your park day. Disneyland Paris itself confirms that air conditioning is used in Disney Hotel rooms.
Which Disney Hotels have a swimming pool?
If you’re planning an afternoon hotel break, a pool can be an even bigger advantage. Disneyland Paris currently lists swimming pools at:
- Disneyland Hotel
- Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel
- Disney Newport Bay Club
- Disney Sequoia Lodge
- Disney Davy Crockett Ranch
Disney also notes that hotel pools are reserved for guests of that particular hotel, so you can’t stay at Disney Hotel Cheyenne, for example, and head over to Newport Bay Club for a swim.
For a summer trip to Disneyland Paris with kids, we’d definitely take this into consideration when comparing hotels. A couple of hours away from the parks, a swim and some time in an air-conditioned room can completely reset the day before heading back for the evening.
What about Disney Hotel Cheyenne and Santa Fe?
Neither Disney Hotel Cheyenne nor Disney Hotel Santa Fe has a swimming pool. They’re still perfectly viable choices for a summer stay – and both are around a 20-minute walk from the parks, with Disney also providing shuttle service.
If having a pool is important to your summer strategy, though, we’d choose one of the Disney Hotels with swimming facilities instead.
Don’t forget the Disneyland partner hotels
Staying in a Disney Hotel isn’t the only option. Some of the hotels near Disneyland Paris also combine air conditioning with a swimming pool. Staycity Aparthotels Paris, Marne-la-Vallée, for example, currently lists both among its facilities.
So if you’re comparing accommodation for Disneyland Paris in July or August, I’d look beyond price alone. Air conditioning, a pool and the travel time between your hotel and the parks can all become much more important during a heatwave than they might seem when you’re booking months in advance.

Air conditioning at Disneyland Paris hotels: what to expect
Most Disneyland Paris hotels do have air conditioning, but don’t expect the powerful cooling you may be used to from the US. The systems generally don’t cool the rooms down as dramatically, so during a summer heatwave, your room can still feel quite warm even with the air conditioning running.
Disney Hotel Santa Fe is the exception: the rooms don’t have air conditioning at all, only a ceiling fan. This can make them particularly warm during hot summer weather, and rooms on the upper floors tend to heat up even more. Among Disneyland Paris fans, Santa Fe rooms with fans are sometimes jokingly described as an “oven with convection” – which gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect during a heatwave.
If anyone in your family struggles with heat or you’re visiting Disneyland Paris in the middle of summer, this is definitely something I’d consider when choosing your Disney hotel.
What to pack for Disneyland Paris in summer
Packing for Disneyland Paris in summer is mostly about being prepared for both possibilities: a very hot park day and the famously changeable weather around Paris. Even when the forecast looks perfect, we’d still pack a few essentials that make a long day in the parks much more comfortable.
For our summer visits, these are the things we’d make sure to have in our park bag:
- Refillable water bottles: You can refill them at drinking water fountains around the parks.
- Sunscreen: Bring it into the parks so you can reapply it during the day.
- Sun hats or caps for the kids: Especially important when you’re waiting outside for rides or parades.
- Sunglasses
- A small handheld or rechargeable fan: Particularly useful in outdoor queues during a heatwave.
- A power bank: You’ll probably use the Disneyland Paris app frequently for wait times, maps and other information, so summer park days can be tough on your phone battery.
- A lightweight rain jacket or poncho because even Disneyland Paris in July or August can come with sudden rain.
- Comfortable shoes: You’ll walk far more than you think, and hot feet combined with uncomfortable shoes can quickly become miserable.
With children, we’d also add a change of clothes depending on their age. Between water, ice cream, misting stations and the general chaos of a long Disney day, having something dry and clean in your bag can come in surprisingly handy.
Best indoor attractions for a hot day at Disneyland Paris
When the afternoon heat becomes uncomfortable, you don’t necessarily have to leave the Disney parks. Disneyland Paris has plenty of attractions and walkthroughs that allow you to continue your Disney day while spending some time away from direct sunlight. Disney itself also recommends heading indoors during summer, including for meals in its themed restaurants.
One of the best ways to deal with Disneyland Paris in summer is to save some indoor attractions for the hottest part of the day. You can continue exploring the parks while getting a much-needed break from direct sunlight.
Rather than disappearing into a restaurant for several hours, we like to combine indoor rides, walkthrough attractions and shows when temperatures peak.

Indoor attractions at Disneyland Park
Some particularly good options for escaping the summer heat include:
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Phantom Manor
- „it’s a small world“
- Star Tours: The Adventures Continue
- Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast
- Le Passage Enchanté d’Aladdin
„it’s a small world“ – An easy option with younger children and a welcome change from outdoor attractions.
Don’t forget Liberty Arcade and Discovery Arcade, either. They aren’t rides, but the covered walkways alongside Main Street, U.S.A. are incredibly useful for moving through this part of Disneyland Park without walking in full sun.
Indoor attractions at Disney Adventure World
The second park also has several attractions that work particularly well during hot weather:
- Ratatouille: The Adventure
- Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Frozen Ever After
- Raiponce Tangled Spin
For us, the goal isn’t to spend a hot day at Disneyland Paris constantly searching for air conditioning. It’s about alternating outdoor experiences with indoor attractions so that nobody reaches the point where the heat becomes exhausting.

Eating at Disneyland Paris in summer
Hot weather can also change how we’d plan meals. Instead of eating whenever we happen to get hungry, summer is one time when we’d consider using lunch strategically.
A sit-down meal during the hottest part of the afternoon gives everyone a proper break from walking and standing in the sun. If there’s a restaurant you particularly want to visit, booking (long!) ahead can also prevent you from wandering around looking for somewhere to eat when everyone is already hot and tired.
We’d still keep snacks in our park bag, especially when visiting Disneyland Paris with kids. Children don’t necessarily get hungry according to your carefully planned restaurant reservation, and having something familiar available can save both time and money.
Is Disneyland Paris in August worth it?
Yes, and we’re putting that into practice ourselves. After several summer visits, we’ve deliberately chosen Disneyland Paris in August again this year.
August can be busy and it can be hot, but it also gives families long park days, warm evenings and the freedom of the school summer holidays. For us, those advantages can easily outweigh the disadvantages.
The biggest mistake would be expecting an August visit to work exactly like a cooler off-season trip. Start early, use the app, drink plenty of water, alternate outdoor and indoor attractions and don’t be afraid to take an afternoon break. If extreme heat changes a parade or attraction schedule, stay flexible rather than letting it spoil the entire day.
With the right expectations, Disneyland Paris in August with kids can still be a fantastic family trip – which is exactly why we’re happy to go back.
Edit: Our trip to Disneyland and Disney Adventure World in August was awesome! Crowds were moderate and even though it was really hot, we had an amazing time!
Planning Ahead for Disneyland Paris in Summer
If you’re visiting Disneyland Paris during the summer holidays, we’d recommend planning the essentials in advance without scheduling every minute of your trip.
Hotel prices and availability can change significantly during the peak travel season, and popular restaurants may have limited availability closer to your visit. If there’s a particular Disney Hotel or restaurant that’s important to your family, booking early gives you much more choice.
At the same time, leave some flexibility in your actual park days. You can’t predict summer temperatures months ahead, and a plan that looks perfect at home may make very little sense when you arrive during a 35°C (95°F) heatwave. Trust me, Disneyland Paris heat can be overwhelming, but you can always prepare for it!
For us, the best approach to Disneyland Paris in summer with kids is therefore a combination of both: book the things that really matter in advance, but keep enough flexibility to adapt to crowds, weather and your children’s energy levels once you’re there.
Our Verdict: Disneyland in summer with kids
We wouldn’t hesitate to visit Disneyland Paris in summer – and the fact that we’ve chosen to return in August ourselves probably says more than any theoretical recommendation could.
Yes, July and August at Disney can be busy. And yes, Disneyland Paris can get extremely hot, and during a heatwave even rides, parades and shows may be affected. But summer also brings long days, warm Disney evenings and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the parks well into the night.
For families, preparation makes the biggest difference. Know where to refill your water bottles, use the misting stations and shaded areas, save indoor attractions for the hottest hours and consider an afternoon hotel break if everyone needs one.
You don’t need perfect weather or empty parks to have a wonderful Disney trip. You just need to plan your summer visit with summer conditions in mind.
