For us, Singapore Airlines wasn’t actually a conscious choice. We booked a package holiday to Thailand, and Singapore Airlines simply happened to be the airline included in the offer. Before our trip, I’d heard plenty of positive things about the airline, but I honestly didn’t know what to expect when flying Singapore Airlines with four kids. Looking back, it turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of our entire vacation.

We flew from Munich to Phuket via Singapore, giving us the opportunity to experience both a long-haul flight aboard the Airbus A350 and a shorter regional flight. In this Singapore Airlines family review, I’ll share our honest experience and everything you should know before flying with children, including seating, bassinets, meals, entertainment, baggage, Changi Airport and whether I’d choose Singapore Airlines again for a family trip. Is Singapore Airlines good for families?

If you’re looking for an airline that genuinely makes traveling with kids easier, Singapore Airlines is hard to beat.

We’ve flown with many different airlines over the years, including Emirates, Delta, United, American Airlines, Air France and Iberia. Every airline has its strengths, but after our trip to Thailand, Singapore Airlines quickly became one of our absolute favorites for long-haul family travel.

What impressed us wasn’t one spectacular feature. Instead, it was the combination of countless little details that made the journey feel effortless. The crew was genuinely friendly, the aircraft was exceptionally clean, meals were plentiful, drinks were offered regularly and the entertainment system kept everyone occupied throughout the flight.

When you’re traveling with children, that’s exactly what matters. It’s rarely one big moment that determines whether a flight feels easy or exhausting, but dozens of small things that add up over ten or twelve hours in the air.

By the time we landed in Phuket, I realized something surprising: I hadn’t spent the flight wishing it would end, even though there was a decent amount of turbulence… As a parent on a long-haul flight, that’s probably the biggest compliment you can give an airline.

Our Singapore Airlines experience with four kids

Our journey took us from Munich to Phuket via Singapore, combining a long-haul flight on the Airbus A350 with a shorter regional flight to Thailand. That gave us the chance to experience Singapore Airlines on both an intercontinental and an Asian regional route.

Because both flights were part of the same itinerary, we could also see how consistently the airline delivered its service. Whether we were on the twelve-hour flight to Singapore or the much shorter connection to Phuket, the experience felt equally well organized, friendly and family-focused.

Over the years, we’ve learned that not every airline manages to maintain the same standard across different routes. With Singapore Airlines, however, we felt that the high level of service continued throughout the entire journey. That consistency is one of the reasons why I would happily book Singapore Airlines with kids again.

Singapore Airlines seats for families

Finding good seats can make a huge difference on a long-haul flight with children. Whether you’re traveling with a baby, toddlers or older kids, having enough space and sitting together as a family can completely change the experience.

We didn’t reserve our seats in advance, yet Singapore Airlines still seated all six of us together. Three of us sat in the center section and three directly across the aisle, which worked surprisingly well. We could easily help each other throughout the flight without feeling separated. Of course, there’s no guarantee that the airline will seat you together as a family, but the crew will try their best to make things work for you.

Economy Class seating

Our long-haul flight was operated by an Airbus A350 in a 3-4-3 configuration. Although this layout sounds fairly standard, the cabin never felt cramped. The seats were comfortable, legroom was perfectly adequate for such a long journey and there was enough personal space that we never felt squeezed in.

For families traveling with older children, the center section can actually work very well. Sitting three and three across the aisle allowed us to stay connected while giving everyone a little more room than trying to fit six people into one side of the aircraft.

Cleanliness and comfort

One thing that stood out almost immediately was how clean the aircraft felt. The cabin was spotless when we boarded, and the same was true throughout the flight. Even the lavatories remained surprisingly clean despite the length of the journey.

A small detail that really impressed me was finding individually wrapped toothbrushes and toothpaste in the bathrooms. It’s something you rarely see anymore, even on long-haul flights, but little touches like that make a real difference when you’ve been traveling for many hours.

Singapore Airlines entertainment for kids

Keeping children entertained is one of the biggest challenges on any long-haul flight. Fortunately, this was one area where Singapore Airlines with kids really exceeded our expectations.

A huge choice for every age

The entertainment system offered an impressive selection of movies, TV shows, music and games for both children and adults.

Our kids had no trouble finding something they wanted to watch, and even after several hours there were still plenty of options left. Some of the movies available on our flight from Germany could even be watched in German, which younger children or less confident English speakers may appreciate.

On such a long journey, having that much variety makes the hours pass much more quickly.

Entertainment isn’t everything

Unfortunately, even the best entertainment system won’t keep every child happy for twelve hours.

That’s why I always recommend bringing a few additional activities, especially for younger children. Coloring books, small toys, sticker books or card games can be a welcome break from screens during the flight.

Good food won’t make or break a long-haul flight, but it can certainly make the journey much more enjoyable. In our experience, Singapore Airlines with kids performed exceptionally well in this area.

Plenty of food and drinks

One thing we noticed very quickly was how often the cabin crew came through the aisle with drinks. Instead of serving beverages only during meal times, water, juice and soft drinks were offered regularly throughout the flight. It reminded me of long-haul flights years ago, when staying hydrated was simply part of the service. Unfortunately, that’s something I don’t experience with every airline anymore to that extent.

The meals themselves were also surprisingly good. Portions were generous, everything was served hot and we never felt hungry during the flight. By the time we landed, we had actually eaten more than expected.

Even on the much shorter flight between Singapore and Phuket, complimentary snacks like sandwiches and wraps and drinks were served, which was another pleasant surprise.

Singapore Airlines kids’ meals and special meals

Singapore Airlines offers a variety of special meals, including children’s meals and baby meals, which can usually be requested before departure.

Although our children simply ate the regular meals on this trip, it’s reassuring to know that younger travelers and children with specific dietary needs have suitable options available.

If you’re flying with babies or toddlers, the cabin crew can also provide warm water for bottles upon request, making it easier to prepare formula during the flight.

Singapore Airlines cabin crew with kids

For me, the biggest difference between a good airline and an outstanding one is often the people working on board.

Friendly without feeling scripted

Throughout both flights, the cabin crew was warm, approachable and genuinely attentive. Our children were spoken to directly, questions were answered patiently and every interaction felt natural rather than rehearsed. At no point did we get the impression that families were an inconvenience or that children were merely tolerated.

As parents, you notice these little things immediately. When a crew smiles at your children, takes a moment to answer their questions or simply creates a relaxed atmosphere, it makes the entire journey feel easier.

Service that stands out

We’ve flown with many airlines over the years, and while most crews have been professional, Singapore Airlines genuinely stood out. It wasn’t because of one extraordinary moment. Instead, it was the consistency of the service. Drinks were offered frequently, empty trays disappeared quickly and the crew always seemed present without ever being intrusive.

By the end of the journey, we all had the same impression: this was one of the most pleasant airline crews we’d experienced on a family trip.

Flying Singapore Airlines with a baby or toddler

If you’re flying Singapore Airlines with a baby or toddler, you’ll be pleased to know that the airline is well prepared for its youngest passengers. From bassinets and baby meals to stroller transport, many small details are designed to make long-haul family travel easier.

Bassinets and infant seat belts

On eligible aircraft, Singapore Airlines offers baby bassinets for infants who meet the airline’s age and weight requirements. Because only a limited number are available, it’s best to request one as early as possible after booking your flight.

If your child is traveling as a lap infant, the cabin crew will provide an infant seat belt (loop belt) for takeoff, landing and whenever the seat belt sign is switched on. As on many international airlines, this restraint system is mandatory for children without their own seat.

If you’re considering using a child restraint system (car seat) instead, make sure it’s approved for use on aircraft before your trip.

Strollers, car seats and baby meals

Singapore Airlines is also very family-friendly when it comes to traveling with baby equipment.

Strollers and buggies can usually be used right up to the departure gate before being checked for the flight. Child car seats can also be transported and, if they meet the airline’s approval requirements, may be used on board when your child has their own booked seat.

Parents can also pre-order baby meals or children’s meals on Singapore Airlines for many flights. Warm water for bottles is available from the cabin crew on request, making it much easier to prepare formula during the journey.

Singapore Airlines offers several meal options for young travelers. Infants under one year can pre-order a Baby Meal, which typically consists of jars of baby food, while toddlers under two years can request a Child Meal for Infant with soft, easy-to-eat dishes. Older children can choose from dedicated children’s meals, including Western, Asian and vegetarian options. Most special meals should be requested before departure.

-> Even though these Singapore Airlines meals are available, I’d still recommend packing some of your child’s favorite snacks or familiar baby food, especially if they’re a picky eater. Long-haul flights are much easier when little travelers have something they already know and enjoy. The cabin crew is also happy to provide warm water if you need to prepare a bottle during the flight.

Singapore Changi Airport with kids

For many travelers, flying with Singapore Airlines also means spending some time at Singapore Changi Airport, and that’s an experience in itself.

More than just an airport

Changi Airport is regularly ranked among the best airports in the world, and it’s easy to see why. Depending on your connection time, you’ll find children’s play areas, quiet rest zones, countless restaurants, excellent shopping opportunities and the famous Jewel Changi, home to the spectacular indoor Rain Vortex waterfall.

If you have layover in Singapore that offers enough time to explore Changi Airport with kids instead of heading straight to your departure gate: Take advantage of it!

One tip I’d definitely give families is to check your departure gate well in advance. Our onward flight departed from one of Changi Airport’s satellite gates, and once we arrived there, the choice of restaurants and shops was much more limited than in the main terminal. In hindsight, we would have grabbed a snack and filled our water bottles before heading to the gate.

If you have a longer layover—four hours or more, or even an overnight stop—it’s well worth leaving the airport to explore Singapore. Depending on your nationality, you may be able to enter Singapore visa-free, while travelers from some countries may need to apply for a visa in advance. Before your trip, always check the current entry requirements for your passport. Singapore is compact, safe and easy to explore, making it one of the best cities in the world for a stopover.

Our experience at Singapore Airport with kids

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to experience everything Changi Airport has to offer. Our connection on the way home became unexpectedly tight after our flight from Phuket arrived late. Although we had to move quickly through the terminal, the ground staff already knew about the delay and made sure connecting passengers reached the next flight before boarding closed. Also, due to Covid, many of the airport’s attractions had been closed.

Even with very little time, we managed to pass the famous indoor waterfall on the airport’s Skytrain. It was impressive enough to convince me that I’d love to return with a longer stopover one day. For families with a few hours between flights, Changi Airport is easily one of the most enjoyable airports you’ll ever visit.

Singapore Airlines vs. other airlines for families

Over the years, we’ve flown with many different airlines as a family, including Emirates, American Airlines, Delta, United, Air France, Iberia and several European leisure carriers. Every airline has its own strengths, and no two flights are ever exactly the same. Even so, some airlines leave a lasting impression. And Singapore Airlines definitely did.

What Singapore Airlines does particularly well

The biggest strength of Singapore Airlines with kids isn’t one standout feature, but the consistency. From the moment we boarded until we reached our final destination, everything felt well organized and thoughtfully designed for families. The aircraft was exceptionally clean, the entertainment system was excellent, meals exceeded our expectations and the crew remained friendly and attentive throughout the journey.

What impressed me most, however, was the overall atmosphere. Nothing felt rushed or stressful, and traveling with four children never felt like an inconvenience.

How SIA compares to other airlines

If I had to compare Singapore Airlines with the airlines we’ve flown most often, I’d place it right at the top along with Emirates. Our flight with Emirates on the Airbus A380 is still one of our favorite travel experiences, largely because of the aircraft itself. Singapore Airlines with kids impressed us with consistently outstanding service, excellent catering and one of the best entertainment systems we’ve experienced in Economy Class.

While we’ve also had many enjoyable flights with airlines such as Delta, United or American Airlines, Singapore Airlines simply felt a little more polished in almost every aspect. For families planning a long-haul trip, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
